I had to share this one, the best before and after picture ever!! It and other Fails can be found here

Sunday, November 29, 2009

It is Sunday, the last of the five days of not working (At our places of work that is, where they are actually paying us) We started the day of with a nice drive through the back roads. Sorry, I did not bring the camera. We stopped of course for some hot chocolate/strawberry milk/coffee on the way. Once home we made ourselves a nice lunch and again after lunch it was time for the soda-launch. Today was not as windy as yesterday and it worked much better.
Boys happy with a successful experiment and Mom happy the soda is gone!

Also started and finished this weekend, new fingerless mittens for ME this time!! Love the pattern, it is called Cancans and you can find it here.

Tomorrow it is back to work, and the start of our Secret Santa. Every year I find it so much fun to "surprise" my "victim" with little presents. It is the best part of the weeks that lead up to Christmas at work. We all sneak around with things hidden under sweaters and in bags, stalk out hall ways to see if nobody is there that can give you away. I fully enjoy this.

in the name of Science

The boys did a little science experiment today, but not before dear mom was send to the grocery store with only three things on her list: Diet coke, Mentos and fresh bread. The last item on my list was intended for the lunch directly followed by the experiment with the newly acquired gadget especially made to make a big mess.
Of course said experiment was set up outside.

Fill gadget tube with Mentos, make sure string is attached to pin.

Pull the string to let the candy go, Run and duck for cover and make sure you watch!

It gives a whole new meaning to a "soda fountain"

and it is the quickest way to empty a bottle of Pepsi (not our brand of choice, we like the Coca-cola brand better)

We saved another rol of candy and a bottle of soda for tomorrow.

in memoriam

When we came home, this was stuck in the front of the car.
Poor little birdie probably never had a chance. Such a small little fellow, we feel bad for him and will give him a proper burial, as soon as I figure out how to get him out of there without major surgery.

My kind of Weather

Today it was my kind of weather, I just love the rain and stormy days. Ooops, minus the storm, it was just a little windy. We decided to dodge the shopping crowd and take a trip to the beach instead. Lovely, lovely weather on the ride down.

We stopped to have hot chocolate or hot vanilla milk. Look no shoppers!! no pushing, no shoving, no crabby people.

Just the sea, and the waves.

Oh, and we tried to take some pictures with DS in it, not an easy task anymore.
Our little goofball is getting tall, look at it almost as tall as his mother.

sock knitting denial

For the last week I have been knitting on a nice sock, lace pattern, 24 row repeat, not easy to memorize. I loved it, but after finishing the heel, there was this nagging feeling I would run out of yarn with the second one. But of course I kept knitting, my Saturday night was spend knitting and knowing I was never going to finish this pair, ever. But I kept on going, knitters denial.
Of course DH and DS laughed and were ready to rip it, they had plenty of arguments of saving the project, like finishing the other sock with the same yarn, not going to happen, this is a mill end STR.
Knitting the feet of the socks with another color of the same yarn, "are you crazy??"
Bottom line, the sock needs to go, I for one loose interest if it doesn't turns out the way I want it to be.
To make a long story short, my ninja came in and pulled out the scale.

See half a sock knitted including a killer heel I might ad, 2 ounces.
Not added, size 10 feet still to be knitted

left over on the ball, 3 ounces.
By socks, by nice pattern, this yarn is destined to become something else.

Also on the needles, a sweater for me, enough yarn for this one and if it does not fit me, there is always someone on this planet who will.

And to make up for the sock, there was a skein of gifted (Thanks Megpie!!) SPARKLY yarn that was laughing at me and screaming to be knitted up in a nice scarf.
Only two days of going to work this week, Wednesday is reserved for cleaning house and some cooking, Thursday is Turkey day!!

Weekend, where did it go??

I know it was weekend, two days of from work, payed for work that is. Saturdays are usually for cleaning and laundry etc. etc. The boys took care of the garden yesterday and today, while I did load after load of laundry, changed the beds and did my exercise cleaning the bathrooms and gave DS tub a good scrub.
After this was all done we deserved some coffee/hot chocolate and drove over to the "bucks".
Did I mention I love Peppermint Mocha, and it is in season again??

After the gardening frenzy was over, I screwed on my Macro lens on the camera and headed outside, trying to find a nice size spider that would hold still long enough for me to take a close-up of it's smiling face. But of course no luck. I did find a little fly on the wall and some Roley poly's running around.

Amazing little critters those Roley poly's.
On Friday my Vine Yoke cardigan was finished, it was blocked that night and today it was dry and ready for it first outing. Of course I cast on for another sweater right away!!
What??? three pair of socks on the needles and one pair of mittens is not enough?? There is this theory that if you don't listen to your inner voice to cast on for yet another project one might explode!!

The Fuplers: It's ORGANIC!

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

More sock knitting is on the needles, and these are nice and shiny needles. Green metal needles with a nice sharp point.
2.25 mm, and wonderful to knit with, although I have to say the knitting with DPN's takes a bit of practice again. Before I moved here I had never heard of the "magic loop" method my knitting was only done on 5 needles.
But these little sticks are awesome!! now I can't wait until they make the circular needles. Also on the needles and almost done is my Vine Yoke Cardigan, almost there only a few more pattern repeats and the button band. Right now it looks like a weird blob but when it is all stitched up and buttons attached it is going to be a nice warm cardigan to wear to school.

We went to DS school for the parent teacher conference, waited for his Math/Science teacher, talked to her, and DH discussed the "Problem Of the Week" homework with her. I just sat in my chair and smiled, they went into a discussion about the different solutions for some of the problems and the credit DS does not get for it, while his answer is correct. Math is DH passion and he is the designated math helper at home.
We waited and waited and waited for the ELA/social Science teacher, I regretted that I did not bring my knitting. After half an hour wait and with DH and DS spending time and money in the book fair we gave up waiting.
His report card is very good and we are two happy and proud parents.

All Decked out

Saturday was Halloween, and our neighbors went all out with the decoration. Gotta love a good grave site complete with werewolf and skull window decals, smoke and orange lights. Not to mention the bell ringing slash scary sounds playing in the back ground.

DS went out with DH while I kept guard at the front door and the trick or treaters, and of course chatting with all the people coming by. We ran out of candy and after a quick look in the pantry DH's humongous bag of pretzels was soon divided into little baggies.
When the boys came back there again was enough candy to last us a year. We are not that big on candy, chocolate goes first and the rest usually sits until it has to be thrown out.
At work today there was again plenty sweets to eat, and smart cookie as I am (ha) I avoided the teachers lounge, there was a big platter of cookies smiling at me every time I turned the corner in the hallway. I am proud to say that only one made it into my stomach!!
