Here it is, another Ulmus shawl, different colors and this time I read the pattern right. Although I have to say, the not correct version is nice too.

Tomorrow back to work, weekends always go way to fast, and what do I do during those two days? Beside cleaning, doing laundry and cooking? There is a workout and some knitting, maybe a little driving around after getting lunch on one of the days. And before you can blink your eyes it is over, poof gone!
Oh, and not to mention the research DS and I have done on his Egypt project on Hieroglyphs, and this is only the beginning of this paper, it still has to be written.
Problem with this is that I love history, and go way beyond what is asked and think that everybody loves it as much as I do.
Still he has to write his own paper and hopefully this mother did not overdose him with history lessons.

Crazy hats and Rain

We had Crazy Hat day on Friday, of course there had to be a new hat to be worn, can't wear the viking or the turkey but yet again. So on Monday the pattern was chosen and I cast on for this creature. By Thursday night he was finished, I wanted to add some teeth but decided later not to.
It was a big success at school, not such a big success at middle school while waiting in the pickup line (I had fun, certain children where a bit embarrassed)

And after two or more, seriously I lost count, days of rain it was sunny today. And look what the rain did, it made everything nice and green and yellow. Don't get me wrong, I love the rain and it did not have to stop on my account.

But nature sure does look more cheerful when it has pretty colors!!

We stopped for lunch and even sat outdoors in the sunshine.

And my ray of sunshine even managed a smile in front of the camera!!

Tomorrow I'll post a pic of my second finished Ulmus shawl, as soon as it is dry from blocking.
Life at work is crazy at the moment with the new Math program almost ready for kick-off, not to mention all the other things that still have to be done. Posting on my blog was put to the back burner a bit, but I'll promise to post more regular, now things are slowing down (a bit)
For tonight I am going to frog a sweater and start something new. I'll tell that sweater story another time.

Nothing day

It was National Doing Nothing day, I was fully planning on doin' nothin' but alas the groceries had to be done and the laundry was piling up.
While the boys went to see Avatar, our theater only has the 3D version and with my weird eyes I don't "see" the 3D, I went grocery shopping.
When they came back, the laundry was spinning and I had hot cocoa ready.

It was time for some knitting before dinner. The golden sock got it's heel turned.
Oh, and try taking a picture of an almost teenager. No smile this time.

My favorite spot to sit and knit in the afternoon, is in the back of the family room so I can watch the birds feasting on the olives from our tree.

Tomorrow the weather people say it is going to rain, I really hope so, there is plenty of knitting to do.

Pants On The Ground

My new favorite song!!
I bet in no time everybody is singing this.

I really wish I could go skating right now, or ice sailing like this boat. This is the one time I miss my birth place and skating. I know it is cold and there is a lot of snow right now, and to a lot of people it is very nasty. For me, it is wonderful!!!

I never forget the day I spend in Bartlehiem to watch the "elfstedentocht". The best day EVER.
Oh the Dutch people and the skating, it is something special that you only realize you miss out on when you move away. Although I would never move back, this is the one thing (beside my little family) that I miss.

Golden Socks

Monday, the last day of my Christmas break, today we took down all the Christmas decorations. Gone are the twinkling lights and the tree. It looks really empty in the living room.

What to do in a nice and clean living room?? Sit down with a cup of coffee and cast on for another pair of socks.
In a nice golden color, it was recently acquired and it screamed "knit me, knit me"!
This afternoon we decided to take advantage of the fact that it is actually colder inside the house than out, and took a nice stroll in San Juan Bautista and treated DS on a nice ice cream cone. (not for me or DH, calories baby, calories)

Tomorrow, back to work, the kids have one more day. It will be a nice and quiet school building without all the students. On Wednesday everybody returns and everything is going back to normal.

Lazy Saturday

We are just enjoying our lazy Saturday today, DS has a friend over to play with today. I am doing laundry and some other small chores and taking time in between to knit.
There was some secret test knitting to do, no pic's for that, sorry. On the needles now is another Ulmus shawl and my mittens for the NaKniMitMo.

The colors for the shawl are a bit of in this picture, I'll promise to post another one when the shawl is done and the light outside is nice and sunny.

Progress on the mittens goes nice too, I had to fiddle a bit with the unusual cast on for these, because I did not have the right size DPN's. The yarn is so soft, it is Baby Alpaca!
The book fell into the mailbox right on time, the last day of last year (how funny that sounds) it is the Magnificent Mittens and Socks book.

Only two more days left and then it is back to work/school.

New year

Happy New year!!
We celebrated last night with a special drink for DS, a good movie followed by some Wii games.

My muscles are sore all over my body and I now know that Tennis is absolutely not my best game on the wii. Bowling on the other hand is a bit better.
DS had almost tumbled of the couch when was revealed that my Wii-age is 74, yep, nothing better than a computer to remind you that you are getting old.

And just to remind us where we live, here is a nice sign we ran across the other day.

Today we just stayed home, called family to wish them a happy new year and of course a nice new pair of mittens was started in honor of NaKniMitMo.
They are a pleasure to knit out of the softest baby alpaca ever, and very very warm.
